Staff of Ghana’s Audit Service are displeased with President Akufo-Addo’s promotion of Deputy Auditor-General, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, as Acting Auditor in the absence of substantive Auditor General, Daniel Yaw Domelevo who is on a forced hiatus.

Consequently, 11,000 of the staff have petitioned President Akufo-Addo to remove Mr. Asiedu. 11,000 is a significant number in the state auditing firm.

“Your Excellency, based on the need to preserve the sanctity of the Audit Service and above all have a credible person to hold on the mantle in protecting the public purse, we are appealing to your high office to intervene in this matter by asking another Deputy Auditor-General to act in the absence of Mr. Daniel Yaw Domelevo other than Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu,” the staff wrote.

They gave their reasons for the rejection of Asiedu as including corruption and laziness. Asiedu, they allege, is also under the thumb of the Board Chairman for the Audit Service who influenced the President to remove Domelevo, Prof. Edward Dua Agyemang.

Alleged as the puppet master, Dua Agyemang also fought for Asiedu to replace Domelevo so that the two can cover up a contract that they awarded to an undeserving company that attracted rebukes from Domelevo, Whatsup News gathered.

“Mr. President, as would be recalled, Mr. Daniel Domelevo the Auditor-General in a letter referenced AG/OP/18/16 and dated 27th July 2018 to your office, reported of the involvement of Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, the current Ag Auditor-General and Professor Edward Dua Agyeman, the Board Chairman in procurement malfeasance. In the said letter, he stated that Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu disregarded an approval letter from PPA and upon the direction of Professor Edward Dua Agyeman, awarded the contracts to some firms other than those who participated in the procurement process,” the petition read.

“Your Excellency, we believe that this could be one of the reasons for which Professor Edward Dua Agyeman wants Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Aseidu to succeed Mr. Daniel Yaw Domelevo as the Ag Auditor General. We do not trust Professor Edward Dua Agyeman neither do we trust Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu.”e.

According to them, Johnson Akuamoa Asiedu is so steeped in corruption that even his very appointment in 2005 was shady. And, they add, the man is also very lazy and seriously lacks resourcefulness.

The petition confirmed that Audit Service staff have become mutinous and are openly snubbing of instructions from the new Acting Auditor.

“The admission on Joy news by Professor Edward Dua Agyeman that staff refused to take the instructions of Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, the Ag Auditor-General is also a major source of concern, as it confirms the staff of Audit Service’s lack of confidence in his leadership,” it read.

It would be recalled that President Akufo-Addo had hounded out the no-nonsense Auditor-General, Daniel Yaw Domelevo from office at the behest of Prof. Dua Agyeman. To get the Auditor General out of the way, Mr. Akufo-Addo forced him to take a long leave.

Initially, Domelevo was slapped with 123 days of mandatory leave. However, when he protested, the days were increased to 168. By the leave days, Domelevo will stay home until Akufo-Addo is about to leave office in December.

The workers are promising more confusion if the petition is not heeded to.
