PPP dismisses defection reports in U/W
“This is on the basis that, the regional chairman of the PPP, Dr. Mathew Dumah and his executives have not crossed carpet and that, they are still in charge of affairs in the Upper West Region. Neither has 1000 members of the party in the region defected to any other party.”
The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has rejected reports that over 1,000 of its members in the Upper West Region have defected to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to the reports, the Upper West Region Chairman of the party, Dr Matthew Dumah, and his executives were a part of the 1,000 to have crossed carpets.
“We want to appeal to the general public to treat the information with all the contempt it deserves,” PPP said in a statement signed by Director of Communications Felix Mantey.
“This is on the basis that, the regional chairman of the PPP, Dr. Mathew Dumah and his executives have not crossed carpet and that, they are still in charge of affairs in the Upper West Region. Neither has 1000 members of the party in the region defected to any other party.”
It explained that the purported defection is about the Wa Central Constituency Chairman, whose position was revoked for incompetence and poor performance in 2021.
“The PPP wants to inform all its members and the entire nation to remain resolute in supporting the party as some of these incidence are distractions aimed at swaying us from reaching our goal.”
The opposition party expressed resolve to remain focused “to wrestling power in 2024 and will not be moved by any desperate political party who want to find credibility among Ghanaians by using the PPP for such objectives”.
