Accra High Court orders UG-SRC Prez-elect, Prince Asamadu to be sworn into office
Following the SRC elections held at the University campus last year, a run-off was held for the two leading presidential aspirants – Prince Asamadu and Samuel Ofosu Amos (Nana B). The results of the runoff saw Prince Asamadu winning the polls as President-elect of the UG-SRC.
An Accra High Court has ordered for the swearing-in of the President-elect of the University of Ghana Students’ Representative Council (UG-SRC),Prince Asamadu to be done within 14 days.
Following the SRC elections held at the University campus last year, a run-off was held for the two leading presidential aspirants – Prince Asamadu and Samuel Ofosu Amos (Nana B). The results of the runoff saw Prince Asamadu winning the polls as President-elect of the UG-SRC.
However, the then Chief Justice of the UG SRC held a ceremony to swear Nana B in as President of the UG-SRC.
The plaintiff, Prince Asamadu filed a lawsuit on December 24, 2021, to seek an interlocutory injunction restraining the defendants from proceeding with any swearing-in ceremony.
Among other reliefs, the plaintiff petitioned the court to impose a mandatory injunction compelling the other four defendants aside from the Chief Justice, to swear-in or cause to be sworn-in the Plaintiff as SRC President pending the publishing of the findings and recommendations of the Dean’s committee.
