Achimota forest to be transformed into a world-class asset – Lands Minister

“intends to enrich the Achimota forest, revamp it and hopefully in the not too distant future, transform it into the likes of High Park of London and Central Park of New York, where Ghanaians can go and enjoy the beauty of nature and forest reserve as it happens in other parts of the world.”

Plans are far advanced to transform the Achimota Forest into a world-class asset. This is according to the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor who has denied claims government intends to sell portions of the Forest Reserve.

This follows the gazetting of Executive Instrument (E.I.) 144 which de-classified over 360-acres of the Achimota Forest.

The E.I. which has received mixed reactions from a section of the populace said the earmarked lands in the forest are no longer regarded as a forest reserve.

But at a press conference on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, Mr Abdulai Jinapor said the government “intends to enrich the Achimota forest, revamp it and hopefully in the not too distant future, transform it into the likes of High Park of London and Central Park of New York, where Ghanaians can go and enjoy the beauty of nature and forest reserve as it happens in other parts of the world.”

“So for the avoidance of doubt, neither President Akufo-Addo nor myself or his government intends to sell the Achimota forest or redevelop the Achimota forest as currently constituted,” he clarified.
