Afenyo-Markin irks NDC MPs with claims on Prof. Naana Jane’s age
The Majority Leader also accused the NDC of failing to transform the Central Region and the educational sector during their tenure, arguing that their leadership has stagnated without new ideas, plans, or policies.
Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has voiced strong concerns over the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s selection of Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang as running mate, citing her age as indicative of the party’s lack of a succession plan.
Afenyo-Markin argued that the opposition’s reliance on veteran politicians like former President John Mahama and Prof. Opoku-Agyemang signals an inability to innovate or plan for Ghana’s future.
“The NDC is asking Ghanaians for the opportunity to return to government, but it is the same old NDC and the same John Mahama,” Afenyo-Markin stated, questioning the urgency and drive behind Mahama’s potential return to power.
“Should he even get the opportunity, there will be no sense of urgency in him because he has nothing to lose,” he added.
According to him, should the NDC even return to power the government will be in crisis from the very first day in office.
Afenyo-Markin contrasted this with the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) approach, which he described as courageous and innovative, highlighting policies that have benefited Ghanaians, including overcoming the economic crises.
The NPP, he said, has chosen Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia for continuity to ensure his government continues with the good policies of the party.
He praised the NPP’s implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, a project he said the NDC had previously deemed unfeasible.
“Today we have implemented free SHS successfully, and we are determined to make it better,” he declared, emphasizing the accessibility to education for Ghanaian children under the NPP government.

“They have not changed the lives of the people of Central Region. Today, the people are benefiting under the progressive policies of the NPP government,” he stated.
