Alban Bagbin currently on International assignment – Parliament

The statement further explained that despite Parliament being on recess and the Speaker on an assignment, “Members are aware of established procedures to communicate with the Speaker if the need be.  If there is the need for Members to request for a recall of Parliament during a recess, Order 53 of the Standing Orders provide that”.

The Parliament of Ghana has debunked claims suggesting that the Speaker’s absence from the jurisdiction is ill-intended.

Responding to an article enquiring the whereabouts of the Speaker of Parliament, Parliament in a statement released on April 18 clarified that Parliament is currently on recess in line with its calendar and Standing Order 57.

The Standing Order provides the suspension and adjournment of the House allowing Members including the Speaker to attend to other assignments.

Parliament in the statement therefore noted that the Rt Hon Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin is currently leading a parliamentary delegation at International Renewal Energy in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The statement further explained that despite Parliament being on recess and the Speaker on an assignment, “Members are aware of established procedures to communicate with the Speaker if the need be.  If there is the need for Members to request for a recall of Parliament during a recess, Order 53 of the Standing Orders provide that”.
