One person has died after a building at Sokoban Wood Village in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region collapsed in the early hours of Sunday.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the deceased was among four people working on the building when it collapsed on them.
“In the early hours of October 20, 2024, a single-storey building collapsed at Sokoban Wood Village in Kumasi. The Kejetia Fire crew were swiftly dispatched at 0245 hours and arrived in good time to find four (4) workers trapped under the rubble,” it said in a statement.
The remaining three were however rescued.
“The team successfully rescued three (3) individuals, while sadly, one worker was found deceased. The body was retrieved and handed over to the Police for preservation and further investigation.”
The Service in its statement emphasized the need for strict adherence to safety protocols at construction sites.
