Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has unveiled a major infrastructure initiative to develop the Cape Coast Airport, should he win the December elections.
Speaking at the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi on Sunday, August 18, Dr. Bawumia announced that a $2 billion fund has been secured from Korean investors to commence the project.
He highlighted the significance of expanding public infrastructure and shared his vision for transforming Ghana’s aviation sector. This includes facilitating the establishment of a private-sector-led Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at the Tamale Airport, turning it into an aviation cargo, horticultural cargo, and logistics hub.
In addition to the Cape Coast Airport development, Dr. Bawumia committed to building a new airport in the Upper East Region, further demonstrating his dedication to enhancing Ghana’s aviation infrastructure and promoting economic growth.
“We will facilitate the establishment of an MRO facility at the Tamale Airport to develop it into an aviation cargo, horticultural cargo, and logistics hub, commence the development of the Cape Coast Airport, for which funding has been secured under the Korean $2 billion facility, and build an airport in the Upper East Region,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
