President Akufo-Addo has urged Ghanaian voters to rise to the occasion in this year’s elections and help make the upcoming polls one of the most well organised, peaceful and successful general elections.
In his New Year Message to Ghanaians, the President admonished Ghanaians to reinforce the status of Ghana as a beacon of democracy on the continent.
“This year is another important year in our democratic journey. We will hold, in December, the eighth (8th) general election in the history of the 4th Republic. We all have a duty to conduct ourselves in such a manner that we have a free, fair and transparent election that will enable the Ghanaian people choose, in peace and serenity, the person and persons who will manage their affairs on their behalf.” he said in a statement.
He added:” On behalf of the Government, the First Lady, my wife Rebecca, my daughters, grandchildren and my family, I wish all Ghanaians a happy, prosperous New Year.
2020 promises to be a good one because there is a growing sense of confidence that, with hard work and determination, Ghana will make it, and, collectively, we will secure our futures.”
Meanwhile, the head pastor of the Calvary Charismatic Centre Rev. Ransford Obeng has charged politicians to desist from insolence and stick to issue-based campaigns as the clouds gather for another crucial election.
Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the 31st Watch night service, he urged political players to be focused on issues and not inflammatory speeches when they mount political platforms to campaign for this year’s national elections.
“As they go about their campaigns, they should talk about issues. They should stop insulting one another because that is not the culture of Ghanaians. Ghanaians are respectful and we honor people who are respectful,” he admonished.
