Address party faithful during the official launch of the 2024 Manifesto of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), a leading member, Madam Elizabeth Ohene, extolled the party’s enduring commitment to social equity, healthcare, and the empowerment of women. Her remarks emphasized the NPP’s track record in supporting the marginalized and fostering a society where every citizen can thrive.
She proudly recounted the party’s initiatives aimed at uplifting the deprived in society. “The NPP has a proud record of identifying the deprived in society,” she stated, highlighting the restoration of the nurses’ allowance, which had been previously canceled. According to her, this move has provided critical support to young nurses, enabling them to pursue their careers without financial hindrance.
She also drew attention to one of the country’s flagship social protection programs, the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP), introduced under former President John Agyekum Kufuor. “This government under Akufo-Addo has not only increased but also expanded it,” Ohene noted, underscoring the party’s ongoing efforts to alleviate poverty and provide a safety net for the most vulnerable.
Acknowledging the pivotal role of women in Ghanaian society, Ohene emphasized the challenges that women face due to societal impediments. “Women are the backbone of our society, but we recognize the impediments that society has put on women’s way,” she said. Ohene proudly announced that it was under the NPP’s tenure that the Affirmative Action Bill was passed into law, marking a significant step towards gender equality.
In the realm of healthcare, Ohene declared the NPP’s investments as “unparalleled.” She highlighted the introduction of the world’s largest drone services, which have revolutionized medical care delivery, especially in remote areas. This initiative, she noted, ensures that even the underprivileged receive timely medical assistance.
Furthermore, Ohene mentioned the distribution of tablets to numerous secondary schools, signaling the NPP’s commitment to enhancing education through technology.
“We are committed to expanding such facilities to ensure that every citizen, regardless of their circumstances, can live with hope,” she added.
Elizabeth Ohene’s speech resonated with the NPP’s overarching vision of building an inclusive society, where no one is left behind. As the party gears up for the upcoming elections, her remarks serve as a reaffirmation of the NPP’s dedication to progress, equity, and empowerment.
