The Black Stars of Ghana will host Niger in a return leg in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The match will be hosted on November 18, 2024.
“The Accra Sports Stadium is set to host Ghana’s Africa Cup of Nations Matchday 6 qualifier against Niger on Monday, November 18, 2024. This comes after the stadium was approved for the previous qualifier against Sudan in October,” the Ghana Football Association (GFA) said in a statement.
Ghana are third in Group F with two points. They are behind leaders Angola (who hold 12 points) and then seven-point-wielding Sudan. Meanwhile, Niger sit in the base with a point they got from facing Black Stars.
Sudan need a point to qualify for the tournament while Ghana hold a slim chance of qualifying for the tournament set to be hosted in Morocco next year.
Head Coach Otto Addo intends to capitalize on the little hope left to book a ticket for the Nations Cup.
After drawing and losing against Sudan in a double-header in October, he said it is mathematically possible for Ghana to qualify in an interview.
“It’s not over yet…Mathematically, there’s still a chance and we will give everything. We will prepare the team. We try to prepare them even better than before to reach our goals. I was really down after the match, to be honest, but now, like friends, family, you know, giving me a lot of confidence back.
“Now I’m back to myself and we have to try as much as possible to do our homework. In case we don’t lose, we should be there. So we have to prepare. We have to look closely. We have to analyse the next games from our players. We have to consider maybe some changes. We have to do everything. We have to turn everything around to bring the best squad to beat Angola.”
If Ghana fail to qualify, it will go down in history as the first in 20 years.
