2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Thomas Partey set for milestone appearance against Chad

Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey is set to make his 50th appearance for the Black Stars in their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Chad.

Partey had been out of the team until March’s call-up, with medical issues and injury the predominant causes.

Although the midfielder made himself available for selection in Ghana’s final round of games in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers in November, Ghana coach Otto Addo decided against it.

The 31-year-old has been recalled to the Black Stars for the first time since September 2024.

Partey, who deputised as Ghana skipper in Andre Ayew’s absence, has taken a step back in the restructured leadership of the team.

The Arsenal man has been named Jordan’s assistant.

Since June 2016, Thomas Partey has been actively involved in the national team.

Partey debuted for Ghana against Mauritius in the lead-up to the 2017 AFCON and has never looked back.

Partey has made 12 appearances in the AFCON, three in the World Cup, ten in World Cup qualification, 11 in international friendlies, and 13 AFCON qualifiers.

The midfielder has amassed 12 goals and provided five assists in that time, with his last strike coming against Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

With Ghana prepared to battle Chad, Partey will fancy his chances of scoring a first goal in two years.
