31st DWM, Mokasa celebrate Women’s Day at Seek Life Orphanage

Leadership of the 31st December Women’s Movement and Mokasa Foundation, non-governmental organizations advocating for women empowerment together with National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament for Ayensuoano, Hon Teddy Nana Yaw Addi visited Seek Life Charity Foundation Home at Asuboi Bonkua No 1 in the Eastern Region to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day.

The team was joined by the NDC women’s wing in the Ayensuoano constituency to donate items including rice, sugar, water, biscuit, soft drinks, Tuna flakes and branded exercise books of the MP and MOKASA.

The group led by the executive secretary of Mokasa, and also the National Vice Chairman for NDC, Dr. Sherry Ayittey also made a special presentation of a motorbike in fulfilment of a promise to the institution during their maiden visit to the place in 2021.

Speaking to the pupils, she encouraged them to take education very seriously, and not to be distracted by challenges confronting society.

“You can become who you want to be if you stay focused by changing your impossibility mindset and strive to be counted in the future.
You should be assertive and not a liability to society, she stressed.

Dr Sherry Ayittey asked girls to have role models and learn hard to take up the leadership positions of the nation in the future to break the gender gap, as the theme for this year advocates, “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.”

She underscored the need for education and practice of sustainable environmental issues to fight climate change for unborn generations.

The donations, according to Mrs. Kuma Minta, executive member for the team, is their contribution to putting a smile on the faces of children in the orphanage to celebrate International Women’s Day

She admonished children not to allow their geographic and social situations to hinder their progress and development.

Ambassador Molly Anim Addo under NDC administration for Italy and also former Director for Council of Women Development expressed the groups’ determination on women and children development to help in the fight against inequality, discrimination and violence.

She urged women to join hands to eliminate all forms of hindrance towards progress.

Stop chasing teenage girls for sex

A former school feeding coordinator for Eastern Region, Mrs. Ansah, appealed to boys not to be an obstacle towards girls’ development.

She urged boys to stop harassing teenage girls for sex, which is the potential for teenage pregnancy and is likely to make victims drop out of school.

Construction of New school block

The occasion was also used by the team and the Member of Parliament to cut sod for the construction of a three-storey classroom block for the orphanage.

The completion will create a conducive environment for teaching and learning, improve access to support more unfortunate children to get education.

The group promised to donate twenty bags of cement to support the construction.

The MP, Hon. Teddy Addi, expressed his appreciation to the leadership of both the 31st DWM and MOKASA for their visit to the constituency and the kind gesture to Seek Life Orphanage.

He reiterated his commitment to help enhance education in the constituency.

The founder of the orphanage, Rev. Eric Amoh was full of joy and thanked Dr. Sherry Ayittey and her team for the visit and donations.

He assured them of putting the motorbike to good use to enhance their operations.

2022 International women’s day theme

The theme for the 2022 International Women’s Day (IWD 2022) is, “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, recognizing the contribution of women and girls around the world, who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation, and response, to build a more sustainable future for all.
