About Half Of Ambulance Fleet Grounded In The Eastern region

“Averagely we have 70% of our ambulance in commission as at today. Those that are out of commission are basically injectors problems but we know very well that we have gotten a supplier who is going to solve this problem for us. The company is trying to give us these injectors”.

The effectiveness of ambulance services in the Eastern Region is constantly threatened by frequent injector failures.

Up to 50% of the 33 ambulances in the area are occasionally out of commission for months at a time, primarily as a result of malfunctioning injectors that impair the ability to respond to emergencies quickly.

About ten ambulances in the area have been grounded because of injector problems as of Monday, May 13, 2024.

In addition, minor accidents have rendered the vehicles serving Ayensuano and Afram Plains South non-operational.

Some vehicles are kept out of service for up to three months due to the difficulties in obtaining replacement injectors, which worsens the problems.

For example, the New Juaben South Ambulance Vehicle has not operated for three months because of injector problems.

According to him, drivers have been told to only stop at gas stations where there is some guarantee on the quality of the fuel.

The Eastern Regional Health Directorate has long lamented the lack of ambulances and their inability to respond quickly to emergency situations, especially involving women experiencing complicated labor; they have even gone so far as to say that this is a contributing factor in the large number of maternal deaths in the area.
