Abronye DC to be arraigned before court today; charged with publication of false news

He was charged with two counts of publication of false news and offensive conduct conducive to breach of peace, and subsequently put behind bars to appear before the court today.

The Bono Regional Chairman of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC is set to appear before the court, today, Wednesday 16, 2022.

This follows his detention by the Accra Regional Police Command after he was invited for questioning over coup plot allegations he made against former President John Dramani Mahama.

The invitation came days after the Police arrested a lead convener of the #FixTheCountry Movement, Oliver Barker-Vormawor.

Mr Barker-Vormawor who is facing treason felony charges took to social media to threaten a coup if the controversial Electronic Transfer Levy Bill.

In a press statement on Tuesday signed by the Director-General, Public Affairs, DCOP Kwesi Ofori, Abronye was invited “to assist the investigation, failure of which he will be arrested.”

Honouring the invite, he arrived at the Accra Regional Police Command where his statement was taken.

A few minutes later, he was charged with two counts of publication of false news and offensive conduct conducive to breach of peace, and subsequently put behind bars to appear before the court today.

The NPP stalwart in a radio interview made a startling revelation that former President Mahama had met with Al-Qaeda militants to engage them on how to destabilise the country and topple the governing party.
