The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially announced that the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) will take place in Morocco from July 23 to August 21.
Morocco will host the tournament following the Club World Cup scheduled for June 15 to July 13, 2025.
The decision comes after extensive discussions between CAF and the Moroccan Football Federation, with FIFA also playing a crucial role in mediating the agreement.
Unlike the 2021 and 2023 tournaments, which were held in January and February respectively in Cameroon and Côte d’Ivoire due to the wet climate in West African countries during June and July, the 2025 AFCON will be held in the summer.
This follows the precedent set by the 2019 tournament in Egypt.
The preliminary round draw is scheduled to take place in Morocco on Tuesday at 12 pm.
The eight lowest-ranked African teams will compete for a place in the next round of qualification.
