Afenyo-Markin ‘clashes’ with Ablakwa over accusations Akufo-Addo is in constant breach of law

“You cannot do that…Stop misbehaving…Ablakwa, you will withdraw it…You cannot say that about the President,”

The Deputy Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin clashed with the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa over claims President Akufo-Addo is in constant breach of the law.

Mr Ablakwa on the floor of the House on Friday, April 1, 2022, questioned why the President has failed to comply with a constitutional provision to furnish Parliament with the annual report on the staff strength at the presidency.

Mr Ablakwa in the course of that query accused President Akufo-Addo of being in constant breach of the law despite his much-touted status as an advocate of the rule of law.

According to him, the breach of the Presidential Office Act undermines the authority of Parliament.

He also added it is unbecoming of “a President who likes to project himself as a paragon of the rule of law to be violating the laws of our country in this manner.”

But in a sharp rebuttal, Mr Afenyo-Markin who is the MP for Effutu demanded the withdrawal of what he described as unacceptable comments from Mr Ablakwa.

“You cannot do that…Stop misbehaving…Ablakwa, you will withdraw it…You cannot say that about the President,” he responded.

That move threw the house into chaos as members from both sides engaged in a shouting match and name-calling.
