Africa Business+ has released the second edition of its 30 Mining Impact Champions Ranking, developed in collaboration with EY, spotlighting mining companies making the most significant economic and social contributions across the continent.
This year’s ranking integrates enhanced data on companies’ contributions to local economies, social spending, and compliance with environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards. The result is a clearer picture of the sector’s role in driving sustainable development in Africa.
The 2024 edition sees several new entrants making notable debuts, including Ivanhoe Mines (Canada), Eramet (France), and B2Gold (Canada). Other global mining giants, such as South 32 (South Africa), Winning International (Singapore), ERG (United Kingdom), and Zijin Mining (China), also feature, reflecting the increasing diversity of international players investing in Africa’s rich mining assets.
The release of the ranking is part of a broader series of publications aimed at offering a deeper understanding of the continent’s mining sector. In December, Africa Business+ and EY will publish the Critical Minerals: The Pivotal Outlook report, a comprehensive guide to ongoing critical mineral projects, designed to assist investors in navigating this high-growth sector.
In January, Africa Business+ and EY will also publish the 20 Mining Influentials list spotlighting key public and private figures shaping Africa’s mining landscape.
These reports come as Africa’s mining industry is increasingly viewed through the lens of the global energy transition, highlighting the strategic importance of the continent’s critical minerals for global supply chains and the future of the region.
