Akyem Wenchi rains: Three Salvation Army SHS students hospitalised after building collapse

“One student’s leg was nearly cut off by a roofing sheet. The school’s science laboratory, dining hall and other buildings have had their roofings ripped off.”

Three students from Akyem Wenchi Salvation Army Senior High School in the Denkyembour District of Eastern Region have been hospitalized after a torrential rainstorm Tuesday evening.

They sustained severe injuries and are currently at the Akyem Wenchi Health Clinic.

The headmaster of the school, Isaac Owusu Agyemang, narrated that the three students were returning from the washroom before the rainstorm began.

They stood under the school’s garage due to the intensity of the rain, he said, but the garage collapsed and fell on them.

“One student’s leg was nearly cut off by a roofing sheet. The school’s science laboratory, dining hall and other buildings have had their roofings ripped off.”

He added: “Students are preparing for their exams. We need help from government and NGOs.”

The students are recuperating. One of them shared the ordeal they went through.

“I went to the wash room. I decided to take shelter at the garage before leaving to the dormitory. Unfortunately, the garage collapsed on me and my colleagues. I was hurt. We were able to push the rubble aside and moved to the notice board area to seek for help. Two students met us and called for more help for us.”
