The vehicle, accompanied by a one-year comprehensive insurance package, aims to address logistical challenges and improve policing efficiency in the municipality.

Commitment to Safety and Development

Acting Managing Director of Anglogold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine, Abraham Osei Badu, underscored the company’s dedication to “mining to empower people and advance societies” during the handover ceremony. He emphasized that safety remains a cornerstone of progress, stating, “A secure environment is essential for business, families, and every community member.”

The donation responds to a formal request from the Tarkwa Police Command, which cited mobility constraints in the municipality’s vast, rugged terrain. Mr. Osei Badu expressed confidence that the vehicle would enable “quicker incident response, efficient patrols, and more effective service delivery” to residents. He described the gesture as part of the mine’s broader commitment to community well-being, adding, “Today marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to support the safety and development of the areas where we operate.”

Strengthening Police Capacity

The Toyota Hilux is the latest in a series of investments by the mine to bolster local security infrastructure. In 2023, the company constructed and handed over a fully equipped gym worth GH¢553,100.00 to the Tarkwa District and Regional Police Commands. The facility has since aided officers in maintaining physical fitness for their demanding roles.

“Anglogold Ashanti has never left our side,” acknowledged ACP Nana Bismark Agyepong, Western Central Police Command’s second-in-command. He highlighted persistent mobility challenges due to the municipality’s expansive layout and poor road conditions, noting, “This vehicle will bridge critical gaps, allowing us to increase visibility, accessibility, and response times.”

Promises of Accountability and Impact

ACP Agyepong pledged that the pickup would be assigned to the Tarkwa District Patrol Unit to maximize its impact. “We will double our efforts to ensure peace and security,” he vowed, assuring stakeholders that the vehicle would be used strictly for crime prevention and law enforcement. He also commended the mine’s sustained partnership: “Their support spans every aspect of our needs.”

A Model of Corporate Citizenship

Mr. Osei Badu reiterated that the donations reflect Anglogold Ashanti Iduapriem’s ethos of responsible corporate citizenship. “We are not just miners; we are partners in progress,” he said, praising the Ghana Police Service for their collaboration.

Residents of Tarkwa Nsuaem now anticipate improved security outcomes, with the police poised to tackle crime proactively and reduce emergency response delays. As ACP Agyepong concluded, “Effective policing is a shared responsibility. With partners like Anglogold Ashanti, we are better equipped to protect and serve.”

The event signals a reinforced alliance between industry and law enforcement, setting a precedent for community-driven security solutions in mining communities.
