The Anlo Youth Council, AYC, has been following with keen interest developments concerning the “installation” of “Torgbiga Wenya III and Mamaga Buiekpor II”.As the umbrella body of the Youth of Anlo, we have been in constant contact with the respective parties involved in this imbroglio purposely to help us appreciate the situation better to make an informed decision. Having had fruitful deliberations with the parties most especially the Anlo Traditional Council, the body entrusted with the sacred obligation and right to guarantee and preserve the customs, traditions, and heritage of Anlo – a right confirmed by the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana, the following are the outcomes.
We are convinced that there is no novelty in Anlo’s processes and procedures for the nomination, installation, and out-dooring of any King, Chief, Queen Mother, Clan Head, Dumegawo, or a Traditional Leader, howsoever described.
Indeed, two age-old Aŋlɔ maxims “ka xoxoawo nue wogbea yeyeawo ɖo”, and “edulã edue kónɛ” lend credence to our position. We are assured that the dictates of the law, our traditions, and the requirements of a modern dispensation in Anlo would hold sway. It is therefore imperative for Anlo Traditional Council to lead and apply the tried and tested traditions as we have no shadows of doubt about the time-tested tradition of Aŋlɔ would serve as the guiding light.
Anlo Youth Council, therefore, is calling on the Lãfe Clan to suspend all intended installation, coronation, and out-dooring ceremony, and to subject itself to the processes and procedures as enshrined in our tradition and custom, and law.
Furthermore, Anlo Youth Council has noted with deep concern that the ‘installation’ and ‘coronation’ of Togbiga Wenya III and Mamaga Buiekpor II is shrouded in controversy of precedent, and established procedure. This has the potential to destabilize the peace and security of Anlo.
The AYC cherishes and holds in high esteem the wisdom of the structures and the inherent appellate avenues available for any aggrieved person(s). We therefore would like to use this opportunity to call on the youth of Aŋlɔ to resist any call that is intended to undermine the time-tested processes and procedures that have sustained the peace and progress of the Aŋlɔ̃ Dukɔ and its peace.
