AR: This is what the Regional Minister plans to do with people who build on Fire Hydrants

Orders Immediate Action on Blocked Fire Hydrants

Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has issued a strong warning to individuals and businesses that have built structures over or blocked fire hydrants in the region. This follows a directive he gave for a comprehensive review of the state of fire hydrants on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, which uncovered alarming findings.

According to Dr. Amoakohene, the revelations from the review have raised serious concerns, prompting immediate action. He has urged all those who have encroached on fire hydrant locations to remove their structures without delay, as enforcement measures will soon be taken.

“Let this serve as a public notice: anyone who has built on, blocked, or erected structures over fire hydrants should take immediate steps to remove them. The team will be moving in soon, and enforcement will be swift,” the Minister stated.

The initiative is aimed at ensuring that fire hydrants remain accessible for emergency services, particularly the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), to effectively respond to fire outbreaks. The blockage of these essential facilities poses a significant risk to public safety, as it hampers firefighting efforts.

Dr. Amoakohene commended the officers of the Fire Service Department for their dedication and commitment to ensuring that fire hydrants are properly maintained and accessible. He assured the public that the government remains committed to enhancing fire safety measures in the region.

Residents and business owners are therefore advised to comply with the directive to avoid any legal consequences when enforcement begins. Authorities are expected to commence inspections soon, with the aim of restoring all blocked or inaccessible fire hydrants to operational status.

This move aligns with broader efforts to improve emergency preparedness and safeguard lives and properties in the Ashanti Region.
