Two brothers faced the wrath of an angry mob in Ashalaja after they were accused of exhuming the body of a 10-year-old child from a local cemetery.
The incident which occurred on Sunday, January 14, has sent shockwaves through the community.
Eyewitnesses say the brothers, Fofo Agboyemeh and Kwame Agboyemeh, exhumed the body of 10-year-old James Ajoyemeh, from a cemetery in Adewukwa, a community in Bawjiase.
But they were intercepted by ‘okada’ riders in Ashalaja around 1 a.m. following a tip-off leading to the assault by the mob.
The mob attacked the siblings, leaving them with severe injuries before they were rescued by the police.
The intervention of the Dankyira Police prevented the two from being killed.
The Awutu Bawjiase Police Command has since launched an investigation into the matter to determine the motive behind the exhumation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
The two brothers have been sent to the Bawjiase Polyclinic for treatment due to the severity of their injuries.
Community leaders have called for calm as the police continue their inquiries, urging residents to allow due process to take its course.
