Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has taken a significant step towards revitalizing the Kumawood movie industry by engaging key stakeholders in a crucial dialogue. In a meeting held with directors and producers from the Kumawood film sector, Dr. Amoakohene acknowledged the industry’s vital role in shaping Ghanaian entertainment, culture, and storytelling.

Recognizing the challenges that have led to the decline of the once-thriving industry, the Minister announced the establishment of a ministerial committee tasked with working closely with all stakeholders to develop a comprehensive blueprint for the renaissance of Kumawood.

“Our local film industry has played a crucial role in shaping Ghanaian entertainment, culture, and storytelling, and it is time to reignite its full potential,” Dr. Amoakohene stated.

The committee’s mandate includes strategizing on ways to revitalize the industry, create sustainable job opportunities, and position Kumawood for greater national and international recognition.

Dr. Amoakohene emphasized the importance of collaboration among government agencies, industry players, and private sector partners to ensure that Kumawood regains its prominence.

“Together, we will rebuild a stronger, more sustainable film industry that continues to tell our unique stories and promote Ghanaian culture to the world,” he affirmed.

The move has been met with optimism from Kumawood stakeholders, who have long called for governmental intervention to address the industry’s struggles, including funding challenges, piracy, and limited access to international markets.

With the establishment of this committee, industry players are hopeful that practical steps will be taken to revive the Kumawood industry, ensuring that Ghanaian cinema remains a key player in the global entertainment landscape.
