Assin North: NDC plans a Thank you tour to appreciate the people for voting for Gyakye Quayson

The activities will culminate in a grand rally on Sunday, July 9, at the Assin Breku Methodist School Park.

The largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to embark on a ‘thank you tour’ in the Assin North constituency from Friday, July 7 to Sunday, July 9, to express gratitude for James Gyakye Quayson’s victory in last week’s by-election.

The itinerary for the weekend tour includes a soccer gala, prayers with the Muslim and Christian communities, as well as a visit to injured supporters in Assin Dansame.

The activities will culminate in a grand rally on Sunday, July 9, at the Assin Breku Methodist School Park.

According to the party’s artwork, the rally will feature speeches from former President John Dramani Mahama, who is also the NDC’s flagbearer for the 2024 elections, National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and Assin North MP James Gyakye Quayson.

Gyakye Quayson who was recently sworn as MP for the second time, was removed from Parliament after the Supreme Court upheld the annulment of the 2020 constituency election by a High Court.

Despite facing a criminal trial related to the same dual citizenship allegations, Mr Quayson secured a resounding victory in the Assin North by-election, with an increased margin of 17,245 votes, representing 57.56% of the valid votes.

His main rival, Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party, secured 12,630 votes or 42.15% of the valid votes, while Bernice Enam Sefanu of the Liberal Party of Ghana garnered only 87 votes or 0.29%.
