The Baba Yara Sports Stadium, the home grounds of the Asante Kotoko Sporting Club and one of the two FIFA approved football stadiums in Ghana will not be available to the Porcupines until after June 10.
The facility has been closed down to be revamped ahead of Ghana’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Central Africa Republic.
This means that the next time Kotoko would have access to the ground would be in their last season game against relegation-bound Bofoakwa Tano.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) made this known in a communique on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, three days before the Black stars open camp for the qualifiers.
“The Baba Yara Sports stadium pitch will not be available for domestic competitions until after Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Central African Republic.
The decision is to give managers of the pitch ample time to further improve its quality ahead of the qualifier, scheduled for Monday, June 10, 2024.”
Ghana will first face Mali on June 6 in Bamako before their next fixture four days later in Kumasi at the Stadium.
Meanwhile it said the Ghana Premier League Matchday 32 fixture between Asante Kotoko and Accra Great Olympics will now take place at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
