Following the recent earthquake that struck Al Haouz and surroundings, the Kingdom under the leadership of His Majesty the King is mobilizing to help the victims and rebuild the affected areas. In order to facilitate the management and distribution of aid, a special fund numbered 126 has been set up by Bank Al-Maghrib, in collaboration with the government authorities.
In the face of this disaster, Morocco calls for both national and international solidarity to support the victims.
The special fund, opened with Bank Al-Maghrib (BAM), allows people inside Morocco to donate in different ways. Thus, citizens can make cash payments, bank transfers or mobile phone payments via banking apps. The required information, such as RIB and SWIFT code, is available to facilitate transactions.
Therefore, the individuals and organizations concerned can do so “by ordinary or instant bank transfer, cash payment or check, for the RIB: 001 810 00 780 002 011 062 03 18”. Bank cheques should be made payable to the Special Fund for the Management of the Effects of the Earthquake Affecting the Kingdom of Morocco. For transfers from abroad, they will be issued to the IBAN of the beneficiary MA64 001 810 00 780 002 011 062 03 18, under the code SWIFT BKAMMAMR, says a note from the BAM.
According to the authorities, the funds raised will be used to provide emergency assistance to the victims, including temporary shelter, food, clean water, medical care and other basic necessities. In addition, part of the funds will be allocated to the reconstruction of damaged infrastructure, such as roads, schools and hospitals.
The earthquake of September 8, 2023, with a magnitude of 7.2 degrees, caused a lot of material and human damage in several areas of the Al Haouz region. Residents have lost their homes, belongings and, sadly, some have lost their lives. The number of victims of the earthquake amounted to almost 3,000 dead and more than 5,000 injured.
