Barker Vormawor Arrested

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of Oliver Barker Vormawor, leader of Democracy Hub after he was declared wanted over the weekend.

“The Ghana Police Service has arrested Oliver Barker Vormawor, one of the leaders of Democracy Hub for the various unlawful acts he was involved in on Saturday 21st September and Sunday, 22nd September 2024, at the 37 Intersection in Accra.”

The police on Sunday, the second day of the protest, arrested 42 of the protesters.

According to a statement by the police, the demonstrators unlawfully assembled at the 37 Intersection and attacked Police officers performing their lawful duties.

It said they entered a Police vehicle, removed the ignition key and threw it away, pushing down Police crash barriers, “obstructing traffic, causing unlawful damage, and disturbing the peace among others”.

Meanwhile, a group of lawyers calling themselves Lawyers for Protest Defense have written to the Inspector General of Police demanding details about the protesters arrested in the course of the protest including their number, places they are being held and courts where they will be arraigned.
