Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has called on stakeholders to support the Chief Justice in her quest for continuous transformation of the judicial system in the country.
At the launch of “LEADing Justice”, a strategic framework of the vision of Chief Justice, Justice Gertrude Sackey Torkornoo, for the Judiciary and the Judicial Service on Monday, April 8, 2024, Dr. Bawumia underscored the importance of digitalization in the delivery of justice.
Dr. Bawumia noted that “it was refreshing to note that one of the key components of LEADing Justice, is digitalization, which is crucial to the advancement of the judicial system and the delivery of justice in Ghana”.
He also mentioned that having launched the Electronic Case Tracking System for the criminal justice sector in 2018 and also witnessing the positive impact the e-justice system, which was launched a year later, is having on the administration of justice, he is delighted that digitalization is a key component of this strategic vision of the Chief Justice.
The vice president therefore assured the Chief Justice of government’s continuous commitment to supporting the judiciary.
She, therefore, asked for increased budgetary allocations to the judiciary to expand infrastructure in the automation and digitalisation agenda.
“There is a need to increase the budget of the judiciary to allow us room to expand our infrastructure in the automation and digitalisation agenda because undoubtedly, the efficiency of court processes and administration is assured with more deliberate use of technology”, she said.
The Chief Justice further noted that the judiciary would harness the attention of external stakeholders in the justice delivery relay, for improving excellence in their own services, in order that they do not compromise the quality of justice.
