General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has voiced serious concerns over the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the upcoming December election. Kwetey has denounced the pairing as a disappointing choice that signifies the NPP’s shift away from its traditional values and principles.
During Dr. Prempeh’s introduction as Bawumia’s running mate at the Manhyia Palace and later at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi, Kwetey lamented the apparent decline of the NPP, noting that the party seems to prioritize appeasing specific factions and individuals who serve the interests of the establishment rather than the general populace.
He criticized the selection of Dr. Prempeh, known as NAPO, as evidence of the NPP’s shift towards political expediency at the expense of conviction, suggesting that the party has regressed into opportunism and mediocrity.
While acknowledging that typically, the NDC wouldn’t be concerned with the poor choices of the NPP, Kwetey emphasized the importance of a robust democracy that thrives on strong opposition.
He contrasted the Bawumia-NAPO pair unfavorably with the NDC’s seasoned and principled duo of John Dramani Mahama and Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, labeling the former as failed leaders who have exacerbated the country’s economic woes.
Kwetey pointed out Dr. Bawumia’s inability to deliver on his economic promises and Dr. Prempeh’s track record of mismanagement in previous ministerial roles.
As Ghana approaches the crucial 2024 election, Kwetey stressed the need for leaders with integrity, honesty, and a genuine commitment to national welfare.
He urged Ghanaians to reject political mediocrity and instead rally behind the proven leadership of John Mahama and Prof. Naana Jane to steer the nation towards progress and prosperity. Kwetey’s call for a united front in support of a principled and reliable leadership resonates as a rallying cry for voters to make an informed choice for a better future for Ghana.
