Bawumia takes solace in being called a ‘liar’, says it is better than Akufo-Addo’s murder, drug dealer tags

According to him, just as Ghanaians tagged his boss, President Akufo-Addo, as a murderer and drug dealer prior to the December 2008 elections, it is the same way he Bawumia has been tagged as a liar.

The Vice President and flag bearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, has taken solace in the fact that he is tagged as a liar rather than being referred to as a murderer or drug dealer.

According to him, just as Ghanaians tagged his boss, President Akufo-Addo, as a murderer and drug dealer prior to the December 2008 elections, it is the same way he Bawumia has been tagged as a liar.

However, the Vice President says it is better he has been tagged as a liar rather than the false attributions made against his boss at the time he was also contesting as President.

Responding to a question posed to him at his engagement with the media Sunday, August 25, 2024, on what he will do to erase the ‘liar’ tag on him to be accepted by the populace, he said, “well, at least I’m not called a murderer, as my boss was called.

Or I’m not called a drug dealer.”

He explained that it is because some Ghanaians don’t have the spirit of possibility in getting things done that they take some of his promises with hook, line and sinker.

Dr. Bawumia expressed optimism in getting his promises, especially digitalising the economy across, when elected into power.

He admonished that people develop the mindset of possibilities and expunge timidity from them in order to emulate what is being done in other advanced economies.

“And for us to do this, we must have this mindset of possibilities. That’s why I’m saying it is possible. We are always, you know, timid in trying to do things that are not even done in the advanced countries.

“We think because it’s not being done in the advanced countries, we shouldn’t even try. But we can leapfrog them in many areas. But if you have an impossibility mindset, which seems to have been pervasive in the NDC mindset, everything you want to do, they say it’s not possible.

“But if you have that, your development is limited. But when other countries are going to Mars, why would you think earthly things are not possible? Many of the things that I am trying to do in the policy space are a little futuristic in nature. Many people don’t seem to usually understand them at the time when I’m talking about them,” he explained.

He mentioned the use of drones for medical deliveries, mobile money interoperability, digital property address system amongst others, which the NDC said were lies at the time he proposed.

“But usually after they say I’m lying, when I’m proven right, they don’t come back and say I was right,” he stated.
