Ghana’s national women’s football team, the Black Queens, is gearing up for an exciting new chapter as they prepare to learn their opponents for the upcoming 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The draw for the tournament will take place on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the Mohammed VI Technical Centre in Sale, Morocco.
This year marks a significant return for the Black Queens, who have not competed in the prestigious tournament since 2018.
Under the leadership of Swiss coach Nora Hauptle, the team is eager to make a lasting impression after missing the 2022 edition and seeing the 2020 tournament canceled.
The competition promises to be fierce, with the Black Queens facing off against 11 other nations, including the host country Morocco, defending champions South Africa, and powerhouse teams like Nigeria, Algeria, Senegal, and Zambia.
The Black Queens are on a mission for redemption after their recent struggles, which included failing to qualify for the 2023 Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Olympic Games.
Hauptle and her squad are determined to claim their first WAFCON title, having previously finished as runners-up three times in 1998, 2002, and 2006.
The 2024 Women’s AFCON is set to kick off on July 5, 2025, and will run until July 26, 2025. As anticipation builds for the draw, fans are hopeful that the Black Queens will rise to the occasion and bring home the coveted trophy.
