A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) – BLU CHARITY FOUNDATION was on Saturday launched at a colorful ceremony at Aflao in the Volta Region.
Founder and Executive Director of the Foundation, Madam Augustina Anyim, remarked during the launching ceremony that BLU CHARITY FOUNDATION started some years back as a Community Based Organization (CBO) in the Ketu South Municipality with the aim of providing humanitarian support services to improve the livelihoods of vulnerable women and children as well as the poor and needy in society. She said the organization has been doing this in its small way over the years by providing scholarships to brilliant but needy school children, granting interest-free loans to women (especially widows and single mothers) to start their own businesses, among others.
The organization she noted also pays the hospital bills for the sick, pregnant women, and newly delivered mothers who for one reason or the other cannot afford to pay their medical bills, adding that the foundation donates food items, toiletries, and others to orphanages and to prison inmates just in a bid to improve their livelihoods.
Madam Augustina Anyim said her foundation now aims at expanding its scope and intends to carry out the following projects:
- Financial assistance to girls to acquire apprenticeship training and skills in various trades and crafts
- Empowering persons with disabilities through income-generating activities
- Combating child labor and promoting education
- Saving the lives of mothers and their newborn
- Local initiatives for livelihood development
- Prevention of illegal migration and human trafficking.
Madam Anyim observed that the only challenge facing NGOs is the problem of funding to carry out their set goals. She, therefore, appealed to all well-meaning individuals and other NGO’S both local and international to support BLU CHARITY FOUNDATION both in cash and in-kind so as to continue to put smiles on the faces of the less fortunate ones in society, adding that her foundation’s greatest target is to build an Orphanage and Vocational training Institute where children especially girls can train to acquire employable skills so as to become useful in society.
A deputy director of the Department of Social Welfare at the Ketu South Municipal Assembly, Ben Etornam, congratulated the founder, patrons, and staff of BLU CHARITY FOUNDATION for their efforts at improving the livelihoods of the less fortunate in society. He said government alone cannot bear the responsibility of improving the livelihoods of the population hence the need for other stakeholders like NGOs and civil society organizations to support. He pledged the department’s support in any way possible to enable BLU CHARITY FOUNDATION to realize its goals. The organization was launched on the theme: “Together we can make a difference”.
