Chief of Aboso petitions Minister, IGP to probe three Senior Police Officers

The Chief's letter, filed at the Ministry of the Interior and the IGP's office on September 11, 2024, highlights two main concerns.

The Chief of Aboso, Nana Kwabena Asante I, has petitioned the Minister of the Interior, Henry Quartey, and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, to investigate the conduct of three senior police officers in the Western Central Regional Police Command.

The petition, dated September 3, 2024, and signed by the Chief, Queen Mother Nana Akosua Akomaso, and other prominent figures, requests a critical examination of the officers’ behaviour.

The three officers in question are the Western Central Regional Police Commander, the Tarkwa Divisional Police Commander, and Aboso Police Chief Inspector Joseph Bosman Amoako.

The petition alleges that their conduct falls short of the high moral standards of the Ghana Police Service and that they have outlived their usefulness in the jurisdiction, particularly Chief Inspector Amoako.

“It is important to note that the activities of the Tarkwa Regional Police Command amount to the abuse of the rights of the people and a threat to the peace and security of the area, especially, the Aboso community and its environs”, the letter in part read.

The Chief’s letter, filed at the Ministry of the Interior and the IGP’s office on September 11, 2024, highlights two main concerns.

Firstly, the police officers are accused of aiding “some miscreants and non-indigenous groups” in installing a rival chief at Aboso, despite the existence of a substantive chief recognized by law, customs, and traditions.

Secondly, the Western Central Regional Police Commander is accused of continuous verbal assaults on traditional leaders, including the Nifahene, who has threatened to sue if the behaviour continues.

The Chief underscored the urgency of the matter, stating, “We appeal to your good office to treat this matter with the urgency it deserves before things escalate. As chiefs and elders, we do not want to compromise the peace and security of the Aboso community.”
