Some residents of Sokpe – a community in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region who suffered devastating effects of the spillage of the Akosombo and Kpong Dams by the Volta River Authority (VRA) have received financial assistance from citizens of Sokpoe living outside the Community. The Sokpoe Citizens Accra and abroad donated over GHC 100,000 in cash – to ameliorate the impact of the spillage on the residents.

Speaking at the donation ceremony, Queenmother of the Sokpoe Traditional Area, Mamaga Adzesu II, expressed profound gratitude to the contributors for the kind gesture, noting that the chief and people are encouraged by their act of kindness.

She however stated that the Government must compensate the victims so they can get back to normalcy.

The Chairman of the Interim Chairman of the Steering Committee, Emmanuel Yao Agbenu, explained that it was very important for them to come to the aid of the residents, as many have lost their source of livelihood, and homes, with no or little support from government and other agencies.

He said the donation is an expression of love and that the residents must make good use of any amount received.
