A former Deputy Minister of Roads and Highways who doubles as the Ranking Member of the Select Committee on Roads and Transport, Isaac Adjei Mensah has contested claims by President Akufo-Addo that his administration has constructed twelve thousand eight hundred and thirty kilometers (12,830) of road across the country.
He described the claim as erroneous and a false-hearted tactic to wheedle the masses ahead of the 2024 general elections.
President Akufo-Addo in his remarks at the commissioning of a 40.4km Bechem-Techimantia- Akomadan road in the Ahafo Region touted that the state has witnessed an extraordinary expansion and improvement in road network throughout the country.
The President labelled his achievement in the road sector as unprecedented, highlighting that a total of twelve thousand eight hundred and thirty kilometers of road across the country, including six interchanges have been completed with many others ongoing and to be completed in 2025.
Mr Adjei Mensah, reacting to this in an interview with Onua News on July 18, refuted the President’s claim.
He described President Akufo-Addo’s achievement in the road sector as paltry and a complete travesty, expounding that the claimed road network size extension to 94,203.17km by the NPP administration is provisional and invalidated.
The Wassa East lawmaker put on record that from 2017 to 2024, President Akufo Addo/Bawumia’s administration has constructed a total of 6,977 kilometers of road network, but not the purported 12,830 Km.
He claimed that the former President John Mahama in just a term outperformed President Akufo-Addo/Bawumia’s two terms in the road sector as a total of 8,118 kilometers of road were constructed.
He is positive the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will win the upcoming December 7 polls to complete all the abandoned road projects in the country, including the uncompleted interchanges.
