The Clerk of Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, has called on members of the incoming 9th Parliament to prioritize their parliamentary responsibilities and serve the interests of their constituents over partisan objectives.

With the 8th Parliament set to be dissolved on Monday, January 6, the swearing-in of the 9th Parliament will occur just ahead of the Presidential inauguration.

Speaking in an interview with Citi News, Mr. Djietror highlighted the importance of Members of Parliament (MPs) dedicating themselves to addressing the needs of the people they represent. He urged them to ensure their work in Parliament reflects the aspirations and concerns of their constituents.

“Members of Parliament-elect must apprise themselves about their roles. Members of Parliament are not in Parliament to reinforce party positions, or to pursue party interests,” he stated.

He also emphasized the critical role Parliament plays in driving national development and encouraged MPs to carry out their duties with integrity and a commitment to the greater good.

“Political parties come to power based on a manifesto. The manifesto is supposed to contain policies that would further the interest and the development of the nation,” Mr. Djietror added.

As the new Parliament prepares to take office, his comments serve as a reminder of the responsibility entrusted to MPs to put the nation and its citizens first.
