Court issues bench warrant for the arrest of Nii Ofei over sanitation offence

Nii Ofei was captured in a video dumping solid waste from a sack into the floodwaters at Ga Mashie in Accra which went viral after which he was summoned before the court.

An Accra Magistrate Court has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Nii Ofei a resident of Jamestown in the Ashiedu Keteke Sub-Metropolitan District for failing to appear in court over a sanitation offence.

The warrant was issued on Tuesday morning by the court after the culprit failed to avail himself in court to face prosecution for allegedly flouting Section 56 (a) of the Public Health Act 2012 (Act 851) and Sanitation bye-laws of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).

Nii Ofei was captured in a video dumping solid waste from a sack into the floodwaters at Ga Mashie in Accra which went viral after which he was summoned before the court.

The court was presided over by Mr Jojo Amoah Hagan, who issued the warrant and asked Public Health Offiers of the AMA  to produce the suspect before the court to face prosecution.

Head of Public Affairs at the AMA, Gilbert Nii Ankrah, noted that the offender was initially invited by the officials of the Public Health Department when the matter came to the attention of the Assembly after which he agreed to appear in court.

He said the Public Health Department of the Assembly would not hesitate to apprehend any one found disobeying the Assemblies bye-laws adding under the Operation Clean Your Frontage campaign no staff would be allowed to intervene for any offender.

He cautioned the public to watch carefully the activities of miscreants in the society who were bent on sabotaging the clean Ghana Agenda being championed by the Greater Accra Regional Minister.
