The Overlord of Dagbon expressed his gratitude to the leadership of Ghana Youth Guide for choosing Yendi as the best district to hold the 3rd edition of the leadership conference, and added that the conference was timely as Dagbon has just been re-united and celebrated this year’s Damba Festival in a grand style.
It can be recalled that the GYG Administrative Secretary – Farouk Kibtia outlined their plans of holding the 3rd edition of the High School Leadership Conference in the Yendi Municipality.
She added that the Ghana Youth Guide intends to cover all the districts in the Northern Region with their programs in the coming years.
The GYG over the last three years successfully staged the High School Leadership Conference, the first edition was held in Tamale at Tamale Senior High School Assembly Hall on the 11th November 2017 under the theme, Inspiring Students to Develop the Attitude of Creativity and Innovation.
This drew close to eight hundred students from Tamale Metro, Savelgugu Municipality, Tolon District and Sagnerigu Municipality.
The second edition of the High School Leadership Conference was held in Tamale at Ghana Senior High School Assembly Hall on the 17th November, 2018 which also brought about one thousand five students from Tamale, Tolon, Kumbungu and the Sagnerigu Municipality, which was also had the theme; Youth Governance, An All Responsibility.
The third edition was also held on the 20th of November, 2019 at Dagbon State Senior High Technical School with the theme, Empowering for Peace and Development.
The third edition drew over one thousand second cycle students in the Yendi Municipality including the Yendi Youth Parliament and the Northern Regional Youth Network Yendi Branch.
The organization this year on the 28th of September 2019 held the first ever girls conference to be held in Northern Ghana which also drew over one thousand five hundred girls from eight second cycle institutions in the region with the theme; Harnessing the Girls Power for Social Responsibilities and Justice.
Over the last four years, GYG has organized a lot of youth intervention programs especially for young girls between the ages of 12 to 25. Some of the programs included; Talent Hunt Competition 2018 among Junior High School Students, Menstrual Hygiene Training for 50 CAMFED Girls on Menstrual Hygiene at Ghana Senior High School in 2018, International Menstrual Hygiene Day Celebration 2019 in the Tolon District for 300 young girls from upper primary 5 to 6, JHS 1 to 3 and SHS 1 to 3.
Several Key Speakers were drew to speack at the conference.
The speakers were; Nana Yaw Osei Darkwa – Founding President of Youth Icons Ghana-Accra, Yahaya Amin – Executive Director of Samakose Enterprising Development, Mrs.Hajia Alima Sagito Saeed – Executive Director if Savannah Women Integrated Development Agency. Also, Hajia Sawda of Ghana Broadcasting Co-operation Accra, and the Overlord of Dagbon Ya-Na Abukari Mahama II representatives – Yani Maligu Naa, Mba Bindana and Yani Naazo.
Nana Yaw Osei Darkwa who is the founding President of Youth Icons Ghana, spoke on Climate Change (The Battle of Humanity must Win) at the leadership conference.
He also advised students to maintain peace by saying that “Own the peace for Dagbon and Ghana as leaders of tomorrow, remember you are the seed, so reject the violence tag by living peacefully with each other”.
