Former Gender Minister and New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament for Agona West in the Central Region, Cynthia Morrison, will still contest the 2024 election as an independent candidate, according to recent developments.
This follows reports that Morrison, along with three other MPs, had their seats declared vacant by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin.
The announcement led to speculation that Morrison might reconsider her decision to run.
Viral photos of Morrison with prominent NPP members, including Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin and Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, circulated after Speaker Bagbin indefinitely suspended parliamentary proceedings on Tuesday, further fueling the rumours.
However, a statement from her office has refuted these reports.
According to the statement, Morrison remains committed to running as an independent candidate and serving her constituents, denying any decision to step down from the race.
“Any claims suggesting otherwise are false and intended to mislead the public,” the statement read, urging the media and public to rely on official sources for accurate information.
The statement also reaffirmed her determination to continue serving her constituency, despite the recent declaration of her seat being vacant.
