A delegation from Unitaid and the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) led by Ms. Janet Ginnard, Unitaid’s Director of Strategy, has called on Dr. Kwesi Djokoto, Deputy Chief Executive of Operations to discuss strengthening the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and improving access to healthcare commodities in Ghana.

On his facebook wall, Dr. Djokoto said, “the meeting provided an opportunity for us to explore potential areas of collaboration and support that could enhance the sustainability of our healthcare system. Ms. Ginnard commended Ghana’s achievements in sustaining its health financing system and expressed interest in developing a stronger partnership with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA)”.

They engaged in fruitful discussions on how to leverage Unitaid’s expertise in global health innovation and market shaping to improve access to affordable healthcare commodities in Ghana. The delegation sought to understand how Ghana’s domestic financing supports healthcare commodities, particularly for maternal and newborn child health.

“As the Deputy Chief Executive of Operations, I reaffirmed the NHIA’s commitment to exploring innovative financing solutions, particularly with the government’s uncapped levy to support the NHIS. We recognize the importance of domestic financing in ensuring the sustainability of our healthcare system, and we look forward to working with Unitaid and CHAI to identify practical solutions”, he added.
