Delta Air Lines has painted Accra’s Kokota International Airport pink as it supports Breast Cancer Awareness Month with fundraising activities throughout October.
The airline has supported fundraising for Breast Cancer Research for more than 16 years and in Ghana is a partner of Breast Care International (BCI) since 2016, providing funding for screening programmes and raising awareness through participation in the annual Walk For The Cure event.
During the month, Delta’s airport and flight crews wear pink uniforms, while an online Pink Boutique sells a range of themed items.
Meanwhile, Delta’s airport and sales teams in Accra are wearing special T-shirts, designed by BCI and the Peace and Love Hospital, and raising money through the sale of dedicated items to support this special cause, while customers will be welcomed by a pink balloon arch on arrival at the terminal.
Delta’s representative company in Ghana, Aviation Alliance has also provided a $500 donation to BCI.
“We’re proud to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month and play our part to raise funds for local awareness and screening programmes,” said Sidoine Rodrigues, Delta’s airport manager in Accra.
“Breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world and our work with BCI has enabled thousands of women to benefit from their life-saving work.”
In collaboration with BCI, Delta will take part in a Breast Cancer Talk with medical experts Thursday, October 21 for the Aviation Ladies Club, an organisation for women working in the Ghanaian aviation industry.
The event taking place at Kokota International Airport will also include free breast screenings for participants.
Delta is the longest-serving U.S. carrier to serve Ghana and this December celebrates 15 years of flying to the country.
