Independent Presidential Candidate Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, has claimed that recent demonstrations organised by the Democracy Hub were orchestrated by one of Ghana’s major political parties.
In a viral video released on Wednesday, Bediako asserted that protests such as “Occupy Julorbi House” and “Fix the Country,” which have occurred in the past year or two, were influenced by either the New Patriotic Party or the National Democratic Congress.
“All of these protests and demonstrations that have happened in this country in the past year or two were organised by one of the duopoly,” he said.
Bediako emphasised his opposition to violent protests, stressing his commitment to maintaining peace.
“I don’t support the youth protesting because I want peace in the country. If the youth of this country and the people of this nation have endured 32 to 40 years of political challenges and crises and have managed to survive, why would they now turn to violence just to send a message and say they’ve had enough?” he questioned.
He further argued that these protests are politically motivated and cautioned against sacrificing national stability for the interests of political parties.
“We cannot do this to ourselves and destroy our own country for the personal or party interests of politicians,” Bediako warned.
Bediako urged Ghanaians to dig deeper into the background of the protest organisers and their sponsors, alleging that some individuals involved have been charged with treason.
“Ghana, do your research. Some of the people leading these demonstrations have treason charges. Ask and find out who sponsored them for the mobilisation and other actions. This is not about galamsey; this is about political interests,” he added.
Meanwhile, the New Force Movement leader’s remarks have sparked widespread debate across social media.
