The democratic forum has observed with worry the rising tension across the country after the declaration of the 2020 Presidential results. Ghana’s Electoral Commissioner, Madam Jane Mensah on 9th December 2020 declared Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as President-Elect for the Republic of Ghana. Subsequent to the declaration, the NDC’s Presidential Candidate and former President, John Dramani Mahama rejected the results on the score that the declared results were error-ridden and accused Ghana’s Electoral Commission of vote padding and rigging of the 2020 Presidential results in favor of Ghana’s sitting President, Nana Akufo Addo.
The dispute has resulted in several nationwide protests and clashes with security agencies which have led to the loss of about five lives.
Democratic forum as an institution has independently evaluated the figures as presented by the electoral commission and juxtaposed same with various pink sheets available to us from some selected constituencies and have come to an indisputable conclusion that, Ghana’s Electoral Commission was not diligent enough in the collation of the 2020 Presidential results, and that the errors involved are significant enough to affect the outcome of the election results.
Democratic forum therefore strongly advices that, the Electoral Commission, in the interest of peace and national cohesion, should recollate the 2020 Presidential results. As an institution, we are ready to provide funding for this all-important activity to bring finality to the ongoing impasse. We further recommend the recollation of all Parliamentary results of constituencies under contention in order to bring peace and understanding among all interested parties. We are capable of handling our own affairs and solving amicably our own problems. We have come far with our Democracy, Let us unite and do this for Mother Ghana.
