Some officials of the Forestry Commission in one of the 16 regions of Ghana are hot over the discovery of illegal logging activities in some forest reserves that has been traced to them.
It has been established that, the regional Forestry Commission manager, and some other elements are involved in cutting down some reserved wood species including rosewood for logging purposes. This is for personal gains.
While residents in the area are angry over this development and are calling for swift arrest and prosecution of these Forestry Commission officials and other individuals involved in this distasteful activity, the Public Affairs Directorate of the Commission is yet to respond to the development.
The rather seemingly arrogant regional Forestry Commission manager who it has been discovered used a particular company to log in the forest reserves for personal benefits has gone berserk, pointing accusing fingers at some officials he suspect were giving out information to the media.
Meanwhile, all efforts are underway to petition the Special Prosecutor for the arrest and prosecution of the said officials and owners of the said company.
