It is Nine months into the second term of President Akufo-Addo’s administration but he has not been able to select Chief Executives for the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies, and this has stalled development projects at the level of governance.
Reacting to this situation in a recent interview with Ghananewsonline.com.gh, the President of Bono Regional Chapter of Ghana Association of Assembly Members, Prince Atta Edward, who is also the Assembly Member for the Konadu Yiadom Electoral area of Suma Ahenkro in the Jaman North, said, “lateness in the appointment of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) has caused a great challenge to the decentralization concept in terms of development”.
He said since there has not been appointment of substantive MMDCEs in the various Assemblies, they find it difficult to disburse and utilize the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) to facilitate effective development. He therefore urged President Akufo-Addo and his outfit to speed up with the activities that would ensure that substantive MMDCE’s are selected for the local government for development.
He added that, the Jaman North district for the past nine months have not been able to attend District Assembly meetings due to lack of a substantive District Chief Executive, emphasizing further that, this has caused a lot of deficiency in the Districts since the acting DCE cannot spend beyond a given amount.
