The Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations (GFD) and the disability movement in Ghana have joined their
counterparts across the world to celebrate this year’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
The celebration is on the theme “LEADERSHIP AND PARTICIPATION OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES TOWARD AN Inclusive, ACCESSIBLE, AND SUSTAINABLE POST-COVID-19 WORLD”.
December 3 of every year has been instituted as International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The day is used to highlight the significant roles and contributions of Persons with Disabilities and their Organisations in Ghana’s Development process.
A statement released on Friday by the GFD noted that “as the world intensifies efforts to fight the deadly Covid-19 virus, it is important for national response policies and programmes to be inclusive of the health needs and expectations of Persons with Disabilities. Disability inclusion will contribute to building a more resilient and sustainable post COVID-19 world.”
“We celebrate all persons with disabilities and disability rights activists in Ghana and across the world!”
It urged all to join a virtual conversation on Monday December 6, from 10am to 12pm GMT as they highlight the gains of disability rights advocacy and explore opportunities to influence national development while promoting inclusion and participation in the Global Disability Summit 2022.
Details of the event will be shared soon on the Live facebook page of the Ghana Federation of Disability Organisations – GFD.
