Disclaimer: Dr. Prempeh has Never said University Entrance Exams will Replace WASSCE should Covid-19 persists

The Minister of Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh has never said that University Entrance Examinations would replace the West Africa Secondary Schools Certificate Examination (WASSCE) if the COVID-19 pandemic persists.

The minister was reported by a news portal, cedinews.com to have said this on the Kumasi-based Hello FM that the ministry was considering that option.

But it is turning out that the report was a figment of the imagination of the news portal as the minister had never granted any such interview.

All that the portal cedinews.com said was nothing but lie to create disaffection for the minister.

A highly placed source closer to the Minister said that Dr. Prempeh has on no occasion granted an interview to any news outlet on the university entrance examination for Senior High School (SHS) finalists because of COVID-19.

According to the source, the Ministry of Education has not thought about any such thing, rather the ministry was preoccupied with developing learning contents for pupils and students at all levels.

At the last press briefing on COVID-19, the education minister outlined serious measures that had been put in place for teaching and learning at the time that pupils and students are at home.

The source, therefore, suggested that the report by cedinews.com was not in the best interest of the SHS finalists at all.

‘’It is shameful for anyone to engage in this wicked tactics at the time that the students are busily learning through both electronic and traditional media sources,’’ the source said.

The source said that the Ministry of Education under the watch of Dr. Prempeh would continue to work in the interest of all pupils and students at these trying times that the whole world was going through.
