Former president, John Dramani Mahama, has urged all eligible Ghanaian voters to exercise their “civic responsibility” by going out massively to vote in the District Assembly elections today.
According to the former president, the district level elections is equally as important as the general elections as it encourages participation in governance from the grassroots level.
“District Assembly elections has since its inception ensured grassroots participation in governance of our country”
“Through the unit committees and representation in the assemblies, our people have had the opportunity to be directly involved in governance at the local level”
Several reports have indicated a comparatively low interest in the district level elections by Ghanaians as turnout has always been low.
Due to this, Mahama through his social media handle encouraged “all Ghanaians to step out between now and 5:00pm to cast our votes” because “it’s our civic responsibility”
