The female doctor at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) who disclosed the health status of award-winning singer Kuami Eugene without authorization has been suspended for three months.
Dr Amina Haarun made the disclosure on social media on March 18 following a near-fatal accident involving the artiste on March 17, 2024.
“Kuami Eugene is here at the hospital with us, and it ain’t looking good. Kindly send him a prayer,” she is quoted to have said.
In a statement, she admitted her fault and apologised for breaching the code of ethics.
“I am aware that my actions not only caused inconvenience but also impacted the team’s overall performance. I take full responsibility for my actions and understand the seriousness of the matter. I am highly regretful for the inconveniences caused to the Patient due to my violation of our “Code Of Ethics”. Mistakes are made for lessons to be learnt, henceforth, will not repeat such a mistake in the future and am trying my best to solve this as soon as possible.”
Admitting there is no excuse for her action, she continued, “I promise I didn’t have any bad intentions and can only apologise. This is completely and totally my fault. I feel horrible and never meant to upset anyone, please accept my most sincere apology.”
She also disclosed she had been subjected to a three-month suspension.
“I accept the consequences of both my license being suspended for three months, and will gladly serve my punishment by staying away from any hospital facility unless been called to.”
Background
Kuami Eugene sustained some injuries after ramming his GC- 220-21 registered Range Rover into a tipper truck at CP, close to the DSTV office towards the Dzorwulu traffic light in Accra.
The accident occurred on March 17, 2024, around 11 pm, according to information shared by the Editor for Modern Ghana news portal, Emmanuel Ajarfor Abugri, who was an eyewitness.
According to him, the artiste appeared to have broken his arm with a cut on his lips, the leg and an injury to his hip.
Meanwhile, in a statement on Lynx Entertainment, the record label of the 27-year-old said he was recuperating and responding to treatment.
